What is the best advice you've ever received? 
"The longest way round is the shortest way home." Take your time to do something thoughtfully and carefully. It may seem like it takes more time, but it will take less time than doing something carelessly. 

Favorite life hack for night shifts: Cooking a big breakfast post-nights for my family and I to enjoy.
