EMRA Spotlight, Education Committee

Meet Jessie Werner, MD

We're pleased to introduce Jessie Werner, MD, vice chair of the EMRA Education Committee, 2020-2021.

Jessie Werner, MDProgram: Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University

Your goal as an EMRA leader: As a Vice Chair for Education and podcast host for EMRA*Cast my goal is to improve the learning experience for residents. There's so much to know in emergency medicine, and residency moves quickly. I hope our podcasts and educational initiatives make tough concepts more accessible and give residents a sense of camaraderie if they encounter challenges during training.

Why serve as an EMRA leader?
The people you meet! Every EMRA leader is working for a common goal of improving the experience for residents. These are some of the most hard-working, accomplished, selfless people I've met in medicine.

Top 3 traits of a great leader:
1. Taking on the hardest (least desirable) tasks yourself
2. Leading by example
3. Having empathy

What is the best advice you've ever received?
Be kind to people.

What is something people don't know about you?
I have a lot of interests outside of EM. I love crafting and making jewelry, baking, and being outdoors.

If I weren't an emergency physician, I would be: A kindergarten teacher

Favorite life hack for night shifts: Don't look at the clock!

Number of apps on my phone: I've never counted.

Last non-textbook I read: Elena Ferrante's "My Brilliant Friend"

Favorite Twitter feed: Gotta be @DGlaucomflecken

What's on your playlist?
Right now, Billie Eilish and always, Robyn
