I chose emergency medicine because...

I am choosing EM as a specialty because I love the fast-paced environment, diversity of patients, and immediate impact you are able to make as an EM physician! I think the field of emergency medicine is unique as you never know what kind of work day you will have, but we are trained to handle whatever medical complexity walks through the doors (or ambulance bay)!

I love working with different patient populations and the fast-paced environment. I especially look forward to working in a family-like environment!

I chose emergency medicine because...

I worked as a lifeguard during high school, drawn to the excitement of rendering aid to people and I had a boss that was an EMT that I got to work with a lot. She made me interested in EMS, so I enrolled in an EMT course, fell in love with it, then AEMT, and eventually paramedic, where I worked for a decade before attending medical school. I have worked and rotated in many different settings, but nothing quite felt like home like emergency medicine. I liked all of my rotations in third year, but I felt that it was the variety of patients and complaints that I saw, which correlates well with emergency medicine. The fast pace, the variety, and the procedures keep me engaged, and Ive always felt fulfilled after a shift. EM is a dynamic field with lots of changes, and this excites me.
